Gettysburg & Washington, D. C.

May 27-30, 2008

May 27-Tuesday

4:30 AM Students report to Forsythe Cafeteria for luggage check. Jennifer Phillips will see the group off from School.

5:30 AM Leave school for Washington & Gettysburg. Box lunch on the PA Turnpike at exit 48-Oakmont Service
Plaza it's brand new- just opening on May 23rd. Use restrooms, eat lunches and get back on the road.

3:00 PM Arrive Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (465 Miles) at the Gettysburg Visitors Center. Meet Dean Phillips, Your tour director, at this location.

3:30 PM Visit the center with some of the world's largest collection of Civil War Relics.

4:15 PM Meet your Battlefield Guides and enjoy a tour of the actual Battlefields of Gettysburg - From Little Round Top to Cemetery Ridge you will learn how this 3-Day Battle set the stage for the Future of our Government.

6:45 PM Board busses and head to dinner in Thurmont, MD at the Cozy Village Inn.

8:15 PM Leave for Washington, D.C.

10:00 PM Arrive at the Howard Johnson's in Cheverly, MD (301-779-7700) for check in.

10:30 PM Curfew! Chaperones get rooms settled; students remain in rooms for night. Security Guards Provided (4)

May 28- Wednesday

5:30 AM Automated wake up call; Rise & Shine!

6:15 AM Continental Breakfast included at the hotel.

7:15 AM Bus to Arlington National Cemetery where you will meet your licensed guides at 8:00am. Watch the Changing of
the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Visit Kennedy's and Joe Louis' gravesites and many others.

Afterwards continue to Iwo Jima Marine Memorial, FDR, Vietnam, & WWII Memorials.

12:00 PM Finish with guides at Union Station. Lunch included at food court (Coupon provided)

1:00 PM Bus to the Capital for guided tours: (to be confirmed) Library of Congress and Supreme Court buildings

4:00 PM Bus to White House- visit Picture Stop!!

5:30 PM Head to Gaithersburg and the Smokey Glen Farms to enjoy Fun and Food! Ribs & Chicken and all the trimmings including charcoal-baked blueberry pie! Enjoy softball, basketball, volleyball, Hayride and much more including a Dee Jay for Dancing!

9:30 PM Return to hotel.

10:30 PM Curfew! Security Guards Provided (4)

May 29- Thursday

6:00 AM WAKE UP CALL!!! Rise & Shine!

6:45 AM Continental Breakfast in the hotel.

7:45 AM Bus to Mount Vernon, VA.

8:30AM Admission to Mount Vernon- the Home of George Washington- see the new Ford Orientation Center & Reynolds Museum! Outstanding artifacts and films for you to see about this great man! You will have lunch at Mount Vernon today. Everyone will get a Food coupon good for $8 cash in the food court. No change though, spend wisely!

Afterwards continue to the National Archives Building and the Einstein Statue for a picture.

3:00 PM Bus to Pier. Board Spirit Cruises at 3:30pm for your 4-6pm Dinner & DJ Cruise on the Potomac River.

6:30 PM Tour with Licensed Guide on each bus to the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Korean Memorial, New
Air Force Memorial, and the site of new Martin Luther King Memorial too if we have time!

10:00 PM Return to the hotel for the evening.

10:30 PM Curfew! Security Guards Provided (4)

May 30- Friday

6:30 AM WAKE UP CALL; Rise and Shine!

7:30 AM Continental Breakfast in your hotel.

8:30 AM Vacate rooms - luggage to your buses. Prepare rooms for chaperone inspection.

9:00 AM Bus to The Smithsonian Institution to enjoy the morning. Your group chooses from the following:

Natural History Museum, Air and Space Museum, African Art, and more! Buildings open at 10AM.

12:00 PM Leave Washington and head home. Box lunches provided.

6:00 PM Stop for drivers change and dinner at the Great Lakes Service Plaza, just south of Cleveland. Everyone will get $7.00 Cash for dinner; choices will be similar to: Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, Panera, TCBY.

11:55 PM Arrive Forsythe Middle School (approximate time)
